We looked at several docketing softwares a few years ago and chose
WebTMS. It's quite archaic (for example, you can't run it in
multiple tabs, which may mean a lot of going of back and forth
between modules) but it was the best choice for us, even with all
its flaws. We looked at AltLegal, but from my perspective the very
design brief for the software is different from what I need. I don't
just need docketing, but like Rosie I also need robust portfolio
analysis and reporting tools. My recollection was that creating
something like an exhibit for an assignment was difficult in
AltLegal and required some workaround because it just wasn't
designed with that purpose in mind. Also, International
Registrations are a challenge for any software, but they way that
AltLegal handled them was, from my perspective, unusable. That's my
take from a couple of years ago, so they might have addressed these
issues more recently.<br>

That said, if I needed software primarily for US docketing, AltLegal
would be back on my list of software to consider.<br>
<br>
So I think it depends a lot on what you actually need your software
to do given your practice.<br>

deadlines. Finally, we found that when we manually docket
an item but have data sync turned on, the data sync will
override it, which can be problematic in certain
situations. Risks will depend of course on where your
clients are filing, so just use and configure any data sync
with care - it's not a panacea. </div>

Legal recommendations, I have used it for several
years now and like it a lot. As my firm and I also
do a lot of patents, we have recently started using
AppColl, which has more robust patent docketing
features, and after seeing that program\u2019s trademark
docketing/services, I would say Alt Legal is
significantly better with trademarks.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Alt Legal is less fully automated
for international than it is with US (it will add US
matters automatically to your docket when it sees
your email address(es) in the correspondence field),
but it does update and docket international
trademark matters. When Alt Legal flags information
in one of your foreign marks has changed at the
local IP office, it includes them in a \u201cTrademark
Data Review\u201d section of the activity email they send
out based on your settings, so you would know
something has changed and be able to check it. When
a foreign renewal is filed and you mark it filed, it
will automatically docket the next renewal.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">The people at Alt Legal are also
great to work with when you have questions, and they
offer additional services on top of the docketing
(2d watch, Application Match). Their fees are based
on the number of matters, so maybe it could be
pricier for large portfolios, but I\u2019ve appreciated
the way they do it because the cost is transparent
(I feel it\u2019s one of the few that actually lists
pricing on their <a
href="https://www.altlegal.com/pricing/"
target="_blank" moz-do-not-send="true">website</a>)
and they are invested in your growth and success.</p>

good for domestic trademark management. The need to
physically enter foreign properties manually is an
issue. I know they don\u2019t always update their own
rules frequently, but when I was using CPI they were
always on top of those. It also doesn\u2019t
auto-populate TTAB matters like some programs do.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"> </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">But if you have a small or no
int\u2019l docket and have a reliable person to stay on
top of what *<b>does</b>* have to be entered, the
price is temptingly low, that\u2019s for sure.</p>
