<p>Yes you have described it correctly. The standard of care is to
get an assignment recorded within three months of its execution
date. But having said that, of course one can record after three
months, and one could get lucky and maybe no intervening
assignment will come into existence.</p>

assignment shall be void against any subsequent purchaser for
valuable consideration without notice, unless the prescribed

States Patent and Trademark Office within 3 months after the date
of the assignment or prior to the subsequent purchase." So it's
not that the assignment has to be recorded within three months or
its invalid or anything like that, but you might lose your
ownership if the original assignor subsequently assigns the same
mark to someone else and you haven't recorded before the second
transfer and the second transfer is not within three months of the
original transfer.<br>
