Hi all,
I'm seeing an awful lot of questions about the new trademark search tool!
I've worked with and run a lot of tests with "TESS2" over the last few
months. Although there are still a lot of unknowns with this tool due to
the USPTO's sloppy rollout, I'm pretty comfortable using it now and have
taught several classes on it.
1. I'm quite happy to speak via Zoom to law school classes about this new
tool and train students how to run a few basic types of searches. If you're
a professor who's interested in this, please just email me and let me know.
I also plan on holding a free training class for IP professors here soon.
More details soon!
2. I've put together a few resources on the new search tool so far and am
working on some others as well.
-I wrote a blog post for Alt Legal which walks through a few different
types of searches and includes some of my various findings:
https://www.altlegal.com/blog/how-to-search-using-the-usptos-new-trademark-search-tool/
-I also have been sharing new search discoveries and strategies on my
LinkedIn as I have found them: https://www.linkedin.com/in/rachaeldickson
<https://www.linkedin.com/in/rachaeldickson> . I have been trying to tag
them all with #trademarksearchtips so they'll be relatively easy to find
that way:
https://www.linkedin.com/feed/hashtag/?keywords=trademarksearchtips .
-I did see someone on the listserv refer to me as having some videos on
this tool the other day; thank you very much for the recommendation! I have
taught one class on this (along with Erik Pelton and Sonia Lakhany) that's
still online- it's available over here:
https://www.lakhanylaw.com/products/keep-the-changes .
I do not actually have a YouTube channel and haven't done any demonstration
videos on the new tool on any of my social media pages so far, but maybe I
should! I'm working on producing other written materials and trainings as
well, so please do let me know what sort of resources would be most helpful.
I hope y'all have a wonderful day.
Best,
Rachael Dickson (she/her)
