[E-trademarks] TSDR - Standard Character Claim Bug If Mark Drawing Type Is UNKNOWN

The trademark search LD:true AND MD:unknown the retrieves 21,984 trademarks, mostly new TEAS special form filings that have yet to receive initial processing by Pre-Exam. (I say mostly new TEAS special form filings, as among those 21,984 trademarks are 46 old registrations of the 81-series that trademark search still falsely indicates are live.)

Toggle to TSDR and display the mark information. You'll likely see the contradictory entries

Standard Character Claim: Yes. The mark consists of standard characters without claim to any particular font style, size, or color.
Mark Drawing Type: 0 - UNKNOWN MARK DRAWING TYPE

That is, for special form applications yet to be processed by Pre-Exam (the UNKNOWN mark drawing type), TSDR falsely indicates the application includes the standard character claim, at least for every mark I've reviewed so far.

Conversely, for the 2,751,433 marks for the LD:true AND ST:true search, TSDR displays the expected mark information

Standard Character Claim: Yes. The mark consists of standard characters without claim to any particular font style, size, or color.
Mark Drawing Type: 4 - STANDARD CHARACTER MARK

where the search LD:true AND ST:true AND MD:unknown confirms that none of those 2,751,433 standard character marks has the unknown mark drawing type (assuming you trust trademark search).

Happy Trademarking,
