I was actually looking at it the other way: are there jurisdictions where a trademark licensee might have trouble exercising enforcing its license rights, without first registering or recording the license agreement?

I’m assuming I’m not the only one afraid to tell you that you can certainly have a trademark agreement that is applicable all over the world, but if it explicitly requires registration of a TM (or IP) license, that’s a thing in some countries and not in others and so you’d maybe need to check with local counsel in any country where you want to make sure you’re doing what’s required to protect IP in the touring subject matter under local law – I just don’t know.

A client is licensing its IP to a company that’s going to create and stage a touring exhibition all over the world. My client is going to have total approval over all content, including TM use.

I’d prefer to include all content and TM approvals in the main agreement, but I’ve seen references in other TM licenses to a need to register a separate TM license in certain foreign jurisdictions. Do I need a separate TM license agreement for that purpose?
