Yup, the box phenomenon for the € characters was not retained via copy/paste to my email editor.

I invite everyone to try viewing the relevant records on TM Search and TSDR. For your convenience, here's a search the retrieves 20 € records by their serial numbers.

SN:( 79206207 79222651 79227677 88618843 88904222 89001449 89001455 89001460 89001461 89001471 89001473 89001474 89001475 89001476 90458807 90664900 90716488 90830820 98057893 98061771 )

Most, but not all, have € in the word mark (the 89-series records have € as the first character of the word mark). A few are standard character marks. View the word marks on TM Search and TSDR. On TSDR, check the display of the design code 241705 for the trademarks having that design code. Then export the entire list and then check the word marks in that Excel file.

Hi, Ken,

Thanks for your perseverance.

Curiously, when reading your email on my Samsung Android cellphone, the character you describe as the box symbol appears as the Euro symbol in black on a yellow (highlighted) background.

Admittedly, it has been a while since I've looked for occurrences of the € (the Euro character, the standard character with decimal value 128), in part because the two searches

WD:( *€* ) AND LD:true

( WD:/.*\€.*/ ) AND LD:true

both only retrieve a single trademark record, namely 98057893 with €MPRESS with the word mark entry. Both TM Search and TSDR show €MPRESS as the word mark entry, though TSDR indicates that No Image exists for this case (which is a little weird).

Today, I retrieved from my archives a list of trademarks with the € character in the word mark. Several of those trademarks are now dead, but reviewing the live trademarks, things got W€Î®D™ (88618843, though WEIRD is the current word mark entry).

For example, TM Search shows ANYTHING THAT PRODUCES (C)€URRENCY as the word mark entry for 88904222 (a standard character mark), but toggle to TSDR and ANYTHING THAT PRODUCES (C)€URRENCY is the word mark entry, where the expected occurrence of the € instead has a ⮗ (box symbol) displayed. Huh? (I hope that symbol doesn't get corrupted via email.)

Then there's 90458807 with BAN€K$ as the word mark on TM Search, but toggle to TSDR and see BAN€K$ as the word mark (that ⮗ box phenomenon again), plus that box symbol appears in the design code description 24.17.05 - Pound sterling symbol (£); Yen (¥) and Euro (€).

Exporting my TM Search records, only 98057893 with €MPRESS with the word mark entry included the € character in the word mark. The ⮗ box phenomenon did not occur. No character appeared in the exported Excel file where the ⮗ box appeared.

I've seen this unexpected behavior with both Edge and Chrome as my browser.
