A lawsuit filed against the US Patent and Trademark Office by Virginia-based Factor2 Multimedia Systems alleges that the agency infringed six patents via the use of two-factor authentication on USPTO websites, marking a rare instance of a patent infringement lawsuit against the agency. A Bloomberg Law analysis found 51 patent infringement cases have been brought against the federal government since 2014 and that only two of those, including the Factor2 case, were filed against the USPTO.
