[E-trademarks] "Elite Mark Group"

Most of the ones I have seen are targeted at businesses that have pre-existing common law rights and often little need for a federal registration (think “Joe Smith Patent Law Firm”).  There have been some solicitations lately that are sent from “law firms” using variations of the names of prominent firms. A client recently received a solicitation from “Duane Morris, US LLP”.

My clients also have received such letters. They are amazingly deceptive.  

Like Miriam, I try to convert them into a business development tool, by responding to their inquiries without charging them. Responding to them keeps me in contact with them, and as Miriam said, sometimes results in additional services. 

More importantly, it  sends a message to the client that we care about them and that they are important to us, even when we are not separating them from their hard-earned cash. 

Interestingly, we charge less for our services than many of these scam artists.

The advice that I usually give to my clients as to print out the letter, paste it to the inside of their urinal or toilet, and use it for target practice. Most of my clients the think that to be a capital idea.

Several of our clients have received similar emails.  Some times that results in our client filling another application with us. So we do look at it as a revenue stream for us.

I haven’t seen that particular solicitation, but I have seen others like it, and I have pointed out to my client recipients the utter BS inherent in a lawyer’s saying, I have a client who wants to register this mark, but if *you* want it, we’ll help you instead.

Hello All

My client received a letter from Elite Mark Group claiming they received a request from “an applicant” interested in registering a name similar to my client’s mark.  The letter ultimately offered to help my client register the mark.  Is anyone familiar with this company and/or their approach?
