[E-trademarks] Trademark Search Field G3

Thank you for posting the G3 comments from the Trademark Assistance Unit.

In the old days of TESS, when we introduced a new field, we would have to rebuild the entire search database in parallel with the existing search database until we were confident that the new database was ready to replace the previous version.

Now consider the following search results.

Search
Hits
UD:[* TO 20231105]
0
UD:[* TO 20231106]
10,525,942
UD:20231106
10,525,942

These searches show that no updates occurred to the current database prior to November 6th.  With additional updates, the newer version of the search database eventually matched the prior version, and the switch to the new version could be performed without users noticing that anything had changed (aside from someone like me eventually observing that no updates to the database occurred prior to November 6th).

search field GS3.  Below is the response they sent.





Thank you for contacting the TEAS support staff regarding this TM Search question.

Some search fields were created for testing purposes or are still under development.

We recommend you stick with the documented (in the help document) fields until

we add the new fields to the documentation. We can’t promise that undocumented

fields will work appropriately in all circumstances.



Even if the search field is undocumented, it would have been helpful to know what was the intended scope

of the GS3 search field.
