[E-trademarks] 2026 INTA Annual Meeting in Dubai moved to 2029

Sadly, most of the responses on this train are reactionary. But, what is unknown, so far as I can see, is did INTA approach Dubai or did Dubai approach INTA? If the former then, shame on INTA for having been so naïve to the culture of Dubai and the make-up of INTA. If the latter, well, again, shame on INTA for not having responded to Dubai’s invitation and advising them of the nature of the membership of INTA. Specifically, our membership includes many females: they do not walk several paces behind their male peers: we are equals. As an invitee they expect to be treated with respect and be able to dress in accordance with then tradition. Similarly, as an invitee, they expect to be respected for their choices with whom they hold hands, show gratitude and love for, etc. If Dubai, or any country for that matter, wants to control the people they invite with requirements that go against the norms of those they invite; then, they need to state that upfront and allow the organization to determine whether they and their membership concur.
Seems pretty straight forward to me. It’s not a matter or 2026, 2029 or any other year; it’s a matter or principals.

The press release is a highly enjoyable exercise in PR management. I’m guessing pushing to 2029 is a move towards moving it to 2033 or 2525, even. I particularly liked the cut-n-paste feel of the part about what makes Dubai an awesome place for business things generally. The overall message: we’re moving it three years ahead … because the choice was so great … that we really really need to put in more planning … to make it … even better than it would have been in 2026 …and three years is a good amount of time … for, uh, more planning?
Lindsey, and anyone who knows, who/which is the best contact at INTA for people who have not yet expressed their views on Dubai as a choice to do so, should they wish to?

I'm sure walking around in 100 degrees in May in a suit would be just fine.
(Spoiler: I've been there and to Bahrain -- it would not be.)

They received a ton of pushback - The LGBTQ community is not an insignificant portion of the INTA attendees, plus just the sheer management of potentially 10k people in that environment. I was told that one hotel cannot likely hold everyone, and traveling between properties is a huge undertaking, not a walkable area. I'm not convinced 2029 will happen for these same reasons. I also heard that the government there is paying for groups like INTA to hold these conventions so that was likely initial appeal of Dubai - INTA is all about money.

I chatted with a handful of folks in Atlanta, and as one person noted, about 60% of INTAs membership are women, and Dubai is not the friendliest place in that regard, let alone for any LGBTQ+ members. My guess is that they were getting some very serious pushback.

Lots of CYA in the press release. Anyone know why the delay? I’m not objecting—I have no desire to visit Dubai—but I am curious.
