 Folks, let's not engage in speculation..I don't think that gender issues have anything to do with it.

I was in the INTA leadership for a few years and can say that selecting a non-US venue for the AM is challenging.  Even if the venue has the minimum facilities, there are still a huge number of issues: (a) cost to INTA of staging the meeting there (ever wonder why it has never been in NYC?), (b) cost to attendees of getting and staying there, and (c) all of these things considered, can INTA have a successful meeting in which its members will attend and it does not lose money?  Years ago there was a push to hold the AM in Beijing and that was scrapped for a variety of reasons.

IMHO, Dubai is a stretch because it is incredibly expensive.  Attendance is likely to be much lower than previous AMs.  I would not be surprised if the 2029 AM was not in Dubai because the cost issues are inherent. Personally, I could not ask my firm to send me to an AM in Dubai.

They received a ton of pushback - The LGBTQ community is not an insignificant portion of the INTA attendees, plus just the sheer management of potentially 10k people in that environment.  I was told that one hotel cannot likely hold everyone, and traveling between properties is a huge undertaking, not a walkable area.  I'm not convinced 2029 will happen for these same reasons.  I also heard that the government there is paying for groups like INTA to hold these conventions so that was likely initial appeal of Dubai - INTA is all about money.

I chatted with a handful of folks in Atlanta, and as one person noted, about 60% of INTAs membership are women, and Dubai is not the friendliest place in that regard, let alone for any LGBTQ+ members. My guess is that they were getting some very serious pushback.
