[E-trademarks] Voluntary amendment allowed for inbound Madrid application?

I don’t know if things have changed but from my experience you will have to wait for the first action to issue. And whether you are appointed or not, the first action will go to WIPO and the client’s representative that is listed in the IR.

I have been asked to act as US counsel to an inbound trademark application.  The foreign attorney also provided me with a revised description of goods and asked our firm to amend the description via a voluntary amendment to conform to US practice (they have a US registration for identical goods and want to adopt the revised description the examiner proposed for that mark).

Here’s the problem: TEAS will let me make an appearance via voluntary amendment, but when I attempt to modify the goods description, the form won’t let me without selecting 1(a), 1(b), 44(d) or 44(e) as the filing basis.  There is no option to select a 66(a) Madrid designation as the filing basis on the voluntary amendment form, and the forms specifically for Madrid filings don’t appear to contain a form that permits a voluntary amendment.

Is there any way around this?  Or do we have to wait for the inevitable objection from the examiner to the description of goods before we can modify the description?
