Miriam:

Thank you also for provoking memories. Two relatives, now gone, who just couldn’t help themselves and would recite this classic spoonerism combo on the reg whenever it seemed appropriate/ One was also a fan of “Mairzey Doats” a joke song that falls into a different category.

Mardon me padam, but you are occupewing the wrong pie.
May I sew you to another sheet?
In the chack of the birch?
It’s a chewtiful birch.

😊

How many accidental “eggcorns” have been registered I now wonder. I had a colleague back in the mists of time who regularly used the following: “nip it in the butt”, “it’s a doggy dog world” “taking a different tact” (and “x doesn’t jive with Y, thereby abusing both ways of getting the wind across the beam), “here, here”, “escape goat”, and “a mute point”. Of all of these, Word asks me if I really meant “a moot point” so it’s grabbing some!). Some of them would make great (intentional) trademarks. Like I hope “Escape Goat” is a craft beer or band name.

[And actually I attended a recent presentation, a CLE before a very large crowd where it was about the “tenants” of [Subject”] (meaning “the principles” of a subject). I thought it was a typo, but it persisted through the whole presentation 😬😬😬😬😬😬 so I’m coming to think there should be a side dish in no later than high school English that covers “things that Word’s correction system will not help you with but are really embarrassing]

And has now filed opposition. The Notice is attached. My reaction is that the Notice is well written and concise and to the point.

I note that Dolly Parton has filed for and obtained an extension of time to oppose.
