[E-trademarks] Amazon Brand Registry Rejection

We represent a very old worldwide company with a pretty unique mark. Amazon
just rejected their application to register their house mark "because the
trademark on the application either violates the intellectual property
rights of others and/or is highly likely to be confused by customers for an
established brand." No other information was given.

Efforts to see if someone else at the company already registered the brand
suggest no one did. Searches for similar marks that might be registered and
blocking the application have not identified any.  I am stumped.

Does anyone have comments on how to figure out what mark(s) are blocking
registration or who registered them? I am considering applying again to see
if a different result is reached.
