so I am sharing here, as I just learned this from a colleague on LinkedIn:

IPWatchdog has learned that Commissioner for Patents Vaishali Udupa has
notified the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) that she is
resigning effective immediately. Udupa has submitted her resignation in
order to take advantage of the deferred resignation program —known as Fork
in the Road— offered by President Donald J. Trump to federal workers in an
email on January 28, 2025."

"Deputy Commissioner Valencia Martin Wallace will immediately assume the
role of Acting Commissioner for Patents."

In 2007, the U.S. Merit Systems Protection Board

overturned
the agency's decision to remove Valencia Martin Wallace from office for

(1) Conduct unbecoming a federal employee and violations of:
 5 CFR 2635.502 one of the standards of ethics for employees of the
Executive Branch,
 5 USC 3110 which restricts employment of relatives, and
 5 USC 230 which designates a violation of 5 USC 3110 as a prohibited
personnel practice.
