Subject: Some Quality Control Checks/Suggestions Using Trademark Search
I did not see any changes for QC search 1 thru 9 from yesterday's QC report.
I have added a new 10th QC search.

17
The new search LD:true AND MD:*1* AND FD:[20031102 TO *] reveals 2 problems.
(1) From the TMEP:
807.03(i) Typed Drawings
Prior to November 2, 2003, "standard character" drawings were known as "typed" drawings. The mark on a typed drawing page had to be typed entirely in capital letters. A typed drawing is the legal equivalent of a standard character drawing.
807.03 Standard Character Drawings
... Effective November 2, 2003, Trademark Rule 2.52, 37 C.F.R. §2.52,was amended to replace the term "typed" drawing with "standard character" drawing. Applicants who seek to register a mark without any claim as to the manner of display must submit a standard character drawing that complies with the requirements of 37 C.F.R. §2.52(a). See TMEP §807.05(a) regarding standard character claims in electronic applications.
Clearly, from 2 November 2003 forward, the term typed drawing is no longer appropriate. Instead, the term standard character drawing is the appropriate term, yet QC search10 identifies 17 live trademarks with the typed drawing mark drawing code.
(2) Additionally, each of the drawings presented on Trademark Search for these 17 trademarks differs from the drawing presented on TSDR. Below are some examples.

I recommend correcting the mark drawing codes of these 17 trademark records ASAP. For most of these, the standard character drawing code is appropriate, but for 98591309 (pictured above), perhaps the stylized text mark drawing code would be more appropriate.
Hope this helps,
