[E-trademarks] FW: Exam guide on new trademark fees

The PTO has issued its guide for the new fee schedule, and we now have some answers for questions I’ve seen on the list.  In particular, I note that if you use free form text, you’ll have to pay a surcharge for all of the classes in the application, even if you use the ID manual for all of the goods/services in one or more classes.  However, this is not true of the excess character charge, which only applies to the class in which you exceed the permitted 1,000 characters.

I note also that you can’t fix an additional fee issue by deleting offending language or even an entire class.
