[E-trademarks] Trademark Search: Display Text Option (To View Just The Drawing?)

Ah ... I see the problem. I didn't give real examples.

For the search WD:( *&lt* *&gt* *&#* *¤* *©* ) AND LD:true with trademarks listed in descending serial number sort order (and a relatively low zoom), the current default listing looks something like the following (reduced in scale for email transfers).

[cid:074a858f-cf22-4e1e-99f6-071dfbe2eb09]

That display includes the default text fields (Wordmark, Status, Goods & Services, Class, Serial and Owners). Note that Show images is turned on. I'm suggesting a Show text (which currently is the default). Turning the Show text checkbox off, that screen becomes the following.[cid:48bd0278-0521-4c79-b891-79dbadbba0b9]

The Trademark Search display would be dominated by the drawings when Show text is turned off. (Note the Show text check box below the Show images check box on the left side of the sample listing.). The only text would be the serial numbers.(Sorry, I did not add the serial numbers adjacent to the tag box for the second row of drawings.) This would basically duplicate the Images list that was available on TESS. (Maybe I was the only one to use that Images list feature on TESS.)

I confused the issue by showing the character dump for wordmark characters provided by Carl's favorite Unicode character tool (https://www.babelstone.co.uk/Unicode/whatisit.html). Yes, some tool to analyze the actual characters in wordmark entries (especially any characters outside the USPTO's standard character set) would be a desirable addition to both Trademark Search and TSDR. That would be another enhancement to consider, particularly since some Greek or Cyrillic characters that strongly resemble A-Z characters in the standard character list, plus many standard character have essentially duplicate entries in the Unicode character set.

I currently use Excel to check characters, where Excel has unicode() and unichar() functions to translate Unicode characters to decimal values or vise versa, plus I've yet to include any descriptions of the characters as provided in Carl's favorite Unicode tool. Sadly, my Excel skills are limited, as I do not have an Excel utility that I'm willing to share like Carl's favorite dumper that analyzes Unicode characters in wordmark entries

Best regards,
Ken Boone

For the suggested SHOW TEXT option do you mean show FULL Mark, or extracting the text without
the design, which might be SHOW EXTRACTED TEXT.
If show EXTRACTED TEXT, show just the text (B E V A L C) or perhaps (B e v a l C) or
the full Unicode description:
U+004C : LATIN CAPITAL LETTER L
U+0043 : LATIN CAPITAL LETTER C
U+0033 : DIGIT THREE
U+0036 : DIGIT SIX.

Hello Trademark Search experts,

I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to share some thoughts on possible interface enhancements for Trademark Search, building on the helpful features already in place.

First, I truly appreciate the current Show Image option, which makes it easy to toggle image display (though I rarely turn off the display of images). Would it be possible to consider adding a Show Text checkbox as well? Disabling this Show Text option (just below the Show Image checkbox) would allow users to just view the drawings (a feature provided in TESS). Showing just the drawings could help anyone focused exclusively on reviewing the drawings without scrolling through accompanying text. For example, with the proper zoom setting, a screen could likely display 25 drawings (5 rows of 5 drawings), allowing users to quickly tag those drawings of interest. It might be helpful to always display the serial numbers so that any screen snapshots when text display was disabled would include both the drawings and their unique serial number identifiers.

Additionally, perhaps we could consider a Tagged Documents Display feature, which would show all trademarks tagged during a session. I often use the export option simply to create a list of tagged documents for later review. ATagged Documents Display would simplify the review of the tagged trademarks during the search session, allowing the less-relevant trademarks to be untagged.

I'd value any thoughts or suggestions you might have and thank you for considering these ideas.

Looking forward to your feedback and to further collaboration.

Best regards,
Ken Boone

PS - I recently encountered the standard character mark BEVALC360˚, filed October 10th.

Carl's favorite Unicode character tool (https://www.babelstone.co.uk/Unicode/whatisit.html) shows the following for thatBEVALC360˚ wordmark.

U+0042 : LATIN CAPITAL LETTER B
U+0045 : LATIN CAPITAL LETTER E
U+0056 : LATIN CAPITAL LETTER V
U+0041 : LATIN CAPITAL LETTER A
U+004C : LATIN CAPITAL LETTER L
U+0043 : LATIN CAPITAL LETTER C
U+0033 : DIGIT THREE
U+0036 : DIGIT SIX
U+0030 : DIGIT ZERO
U+02DA : RING ABOVE

That is, the final character ˚ has the hexadecimal value 2DA (decimal 730), well above the current maximum standard character ž (Latin small letter z with caron, decimal 382). It appears that Trademark Center accepted ˚ (U+02DA : RING ABOVE) as a valid standard character. I'm still seeing new Madrid standard character marks with invalid standard characters (eg. HOPE&LOOPP, PHở STORY, ˚M WARMER {another occurrence of the RING ABOVE}&СHILLGUY).
