[E-trademarks] Abandonment during black-out window

Owner of confusingly similar trademark agrees to abandon the application, a
few days before the first extension of time to oppose expires. But of
course, they can’t file a Voluntary Amendment Form during the period
between approval for publication and registration/notice of allowance. I’d
prefer actual withdrawal over an agreement to withdraw… I’m wondering
what’s the next best step (other than pay for the 60-day extension to
oppose).
Thanks,
Mark
