[Patentcenter] You Must File in DOCX, Unless You Cannot File in DOCX

We are trying to file a patent application and intended to file in .docx format.
Patent Center would not accept the docx file and instead gave the following error message:

This joke of a message instructs us to file using the standard PDF application process or to contact EBC for assistance.


  1.  What happens when we cannot upload a docx file, but also don't want to pay $400 for filing a PDF (or paper)?
  2.  We called EBC and the helpful representative informed us that the system is just down.  When further pressed, he said "I don't know what to tell you.  I'm not a developer."
