Remember the apparent DDOS attack back in January. And Sandra E joked about DDOS being just normal filers filing in a volume the system can’t handle.
Maybe that was true.
I have clients who like to look up stuff about their applications. Now they cannot – except maybe in Global Dossier. Great job, PTO!

Not for that reason, anyway. While designing systems for lots of traffic requires careful work, it’s doable. But apparently that’s beyond the capability of whatever contractor(s) the PTO employed for their New Way of Working. The r/patentexaminer subreddit has numerous complaints about how badly the PTO’s IT systems are working for them, too. So apparently the PTO can’t get things right for anyone, internal or external.
Here at the USPTO our servers and IT infrastructure are state of the art!<https://www.reddit.com/r/patentexaminer/comments/1ark24w/its_a_living/>

Patent Center Public Application Access Unavailable
The Patent Center public application access has been temporarily disabled to address excessive traffic volume impacting USPTO systems. Guests or unauthenticated users will be unable to access publicly available applications.
Logged in registered users will not be affected and will still be able to access applications. Filing applications for guest/unauthenticated users and logged in registered users is not affected by this activity.
The USPTO Technical Teams are implementing a solution to mitigate the underlying concern and will update users when it is resolved. We expect functionality to be restored by 5pm.
EMERGENCY: Patent Center Submissions
Users are reporting that they are not able to view submissions. Patent Center operations are currently being impacted by other internal USPTO systems. The USPTO Technical Teams are investigating the issues and will update users when it is resolved.
