[Patentpractice] Microsoft Authenticator for 2FA in Patent Center?

That’s interesting, Rick.  

My authenticator, WinAuth, doesn’t put that little icon there.  Or the USPTO didn’t

Thus, I have 4 more mouse clicks to verify by copying the code from WA.

Did you do something to invoke that, or did it just appear because you use whatever authenticator you use?

I guess it could be an age thing.  I’ve been using it this way quite a while without, to my knowledge, upgrading WinAuth.

Thanks Victoria.  The way I use authenticators on PC is by clicking the program authenticator icon adjacent the text-box for entry of the code, as shown graphically below, by the little green Roboform icon. I wonder if your method is more efficient (easier and reliable) than that.

I noticed recently that the USPTO added the option to use a security key or Biometric Authenticator as an option.  I have no idea how long this has been available, but I only recently noticed a few weeks ago. I set it up with my Windows Hello fingerprint to log in on my laptop and it’s been so wonderful!  No more waiting on a code to be emailed/texted or having to use a code generator authenticator.  Of course, I still have the other options set up as a backup, but using the fingerprint scanner on my laptop to authenticate/login has been a great change.  Worth looking into if you haven’t already!

Also, if you do set this up, I would clear cookies for the PTO website before logging in with the new method so that when you login, it will ask you to set up a new default type of login you want to use moving forward.  You can then choose the biometric method instead of whatever you had set up previously and moving forward the login is much more seamless.

MS Authenticator works just fine for me for the USPTO as well as 2 other logins.

I’ve always used SMS for 2FA in Patent Center, but figured I should add an authenticator app, too.  Since I have MS Authenticator on my phone for Microsoft 365, I figured I’d use that.

But when I try to authenticate it, I get “There was an error with the system, please try again later.”

Has anyone had this issue, and/or is anyone successfully using MS Authenticator?  

Before I call the EFS Help Desk, I want to make sure that it’s not an issue similar to the address book in Assignment Center, which just doesn’t work, full stop.
