[Patentpractice] USPTO employees ordered to "return to office"

According to information available on the examiner subreddit, examiners do not have to Return to Office (RTO) because working remotely is part of their union contract. However, management, including Supervisory Patent Examiners (SPEs) and higher positions, are required to RTO. Many SPEs are seeking ways to revert to being regular examiners in light of this requirement.

I had thought I’d seen the Office was in a “wait for guidance” list or exclusion? If not, ugh.

What if they all come back? There is probably office space for about 20% of them.

My cousin is with NIH and got the same letter

It really stinks. The better examiners will find jobs as patent agents or attorneys or else retire

Was just talking to an examiner who received an email while on the phone ordering all USPTO employees to “return to office” due to new DOE mandates. I suspect this is going to disrupt things.
