[E-trademarks] A Published For Opposition Curiosity

Very interesting that there would be peaks and valleys for this.


A first guess I can make is that there might be odd interactions between 
various parts of the Trademark Office.  The people who do "final review 
prior to publication" being on some production cycle (per month, let's 
say) and the Examining Attorneys being on some other production cycle 
(fiscal year calendar quarters, let's say) and this leading to 
constructive and destructive interference.


A second guess I can make is that the IT and software platform people 
might be doing randomly timed tweaks to the various underlying software 
systems.  And this could lead to periods of a week at a time when it is 
harder than usual to carry out this process-flow step or that 
process-flow step.  Leading to boluses of cases getting held up at times 
that cannot be easily predicted by outside observers.   One bolus of 
held-up cases might be, say, cases that are image-intensive.  Another 
bolus of held-up cases might be, say, cases that turn out to need 
translations carried out.
