I guess it was a couple of days ago I was trying to introduce one of our relatively new staff people to TEAS.  I was doing a screen share and my opening remarks included telling the staff person "well, many of the USPTO systems are poorly designed and do not scale well and sometimes crash in the middle of something important ... but TEAS seems to do pretty well."  Looking back on it, clearly I jinxed it by speaking such words aloud.  Anyway, I was trying to do some fairly simple trademark renewal.  Nothing out of the ordinary, it should have been merely a dozen or so mouse clicks and we would have been able to send the "click here" link to the client.

And over and over again, the screen for uploading our specimen of use kept throwing nonsense error messages in our face.  I think I ended up having to do at least two "start from scratches" and only after that did we somehow manage to get it done.

And then I was cringing to imagine, what if the Trademark Office picks this upcoming weekend for one of its "let's do a version change in TEAS, with only ten hours of advance notice" behaviors?  This is a client that sometimes takes maybe four or five days to get around to clicking the "click here" link.  So I was cringing to imagine, what if this particular renewal ends up being one where the client waits four or five days to click on the link, and what if this is one of those cases where the Trademark Office handles the version change so poorly that all pending submissions get lost.

Thank goodness in this particular case the client managed to e-sign the renewal document promptly.

The main point of all of this is, I guess I have learned not to say something like "but TEAS seems to do pretty well" aloud just prior to starting a new TEAS project.

Same here; eventually got it submitted but initial session was entirely lost and had to start from scratch.  Which was made more fun by the fact that the filing is due today and we only got client instructions late last night, so there’s zero margin for error.

Hello!

Anyone else having trouble filing applications with the USPTO this morning?  We keep getting different errors causing us to restart the application, losing all the work put in, and it’s maddening!

Every day this site gets worse….
