Great, thank you. I missed that line in the instructions.

You need to capitalize AND NOT. If you do that, you’ll cut your results down to 1080.

I am new to this group, so this topic may have already been addressed.
Has anyone else noticed the “andnot” Boolean operator at https://tmsearch.uspto.gov/search/search-information appears to be programmed incorrectly? Per https://tmsearch.uspto.gov/help, “Use AND NOT if results must satisfy the first search term but not the second. For example, CM:*USPTO* AND NOT DC:* retrieves marks where the literal element of the mark includes USPTO and there are no design search codes.” However, it does not always work that way.
For the search query
AT: "john smith"~3
I get 1,402 results.
For the narrowed search query
AT: "john smith"~3 andnot AT: hill
I get 27,181 results. Something seems very wrong here. As I understand it, the second search must necessarily yield the same or fewer results.
If I use the “and not” (with a space) operator from the USPTO instructions, instead of the more typical “andnot” (no space) operator, then I get over 9,000,000 results!
