It's the PTO's suggested workaround...but it's an extra step compared to the prior process, correct?

That sounds like a good workaround. On response forms or SOUs that allow new attorneys to appear and when we did not previously get appointed, I have started selecting the new attorney appearing option, entering our info where we can (and in a text box portion) and then having the client sign the declaration at the end of the response as their signature appointing us and revoking prior attorneys.

If you encounter authorization issues while using the Change Address or Representation (CAR) Form to revoke an attorney and appoint a new one, you may need to take two steps: First, submit a CAR form revoking the previous attorney. Then add the new attorney in a subsequent CAR form, or in another form that allows new attorneys to appear.
