By my checks on Trademark Search this morning, only 2,266 new registrations were granted this week. That's much lower than usual.

Below are new registration counts for the last 10 weeks.

#      Search                    Count
 1     RD:20250722 AND RN:*      2266
 2     RD:20250715 AND RN:*      7375
 3     RD:20250708 AND RN:*      7290
 4     RD:20250701 AND RN:*      7503
 5     RD:20250624 AND RN:*      7467
 6     RD:20250617 AND RN:*      7197
 7     RD:20250610 AND RN:*      7858
 8     RD:20250603 AND RN:*      7829
 9     RD:20250527 AND RN:*      7792
10    RD:20250520 AND RN:*       8133

Any guesses of why only 2,266 registrations were granted this week?

Another curiosity. The search RD:20250715 AND RN:* AND RN:/<7869697-9999999>/ retrieves just one registration and indicates that registration 7869697 is the highest registration granted on July 15th. The similar search RD:20250722 AND RN:* AND RN:/<7869697-7870260>/ retrieves just one registration and indicates that registration 7870260 is the lowest registration granted on July 22nd. Notice the gap. Checking, the search RN:/<7869698-7870259>/ retrieves only one registration, namely registration 7870240 (serial number 87984266), a registration on the Supplemental Register that was granted on February 5, 2019 (but it looks like some divisional activity is in progress). Why would the USPTO largely skip over 500 registration numbers for the range 7869698 through 7870259, only using 7870240 for that registration number range?

And I couldn't help but notice that registration 7870260, the lowest registration number for July 22nd, has the following drawing.

The wordmark for this design with text registration is ALIVER, but it sure looks like the last character of that wordmark is really the ® registration symbol. Clever application, or violation of the rule of not allowing the ® registration symbol in drawings?

Curiously,
Ken Boone

PS - There's yet another box characters standard character mark drawing, namely

for the standard character mark 백년목련어묵filed on July 15th. Yet another applicant failed to check the USPTO generated standard character mark drawing. So it goes.
