[Patentcenter] Error in ADS, Correspondence address??

Thanks Scott.  In my case, this is a PCT application, so there was no ADS.  But. I checked the RO-101 Request form and there was a - (Em dash) in the address.  Wow!  I will get this corrected and hopefully that will solve the problem.  Thank you!!

I ran into a similar issue when I used an em dash (-) in the name of a customer number. Rather than tell me it was an invalid character, Patent Center showed an invalid character error if I tried to anything. I could not file anything in Patent Center while the em dash was in the name of the customer number.

So, since your error involves an invalid character in the correspondence address, if it is associated with a customer number, then this could be referring to the street address of the relevant customer number rather than the ADS. You might be able to fix the error by removing any unusual characters in the street address of the customer number using the "Manage customer numbers" feature in Patent Center. I fixed my error by removing the em dash from the name of the customer number.

As a follow-up to the below email, according to the EBC, this is a known issue with several tickets on it, and appears to affect random applications (meaning, they haven't a clue what is causing the problem). The EBC doesn't have a solution, other than to recommend filing "by alternative means" (meaning, filing on paper via USPS).  Great solution.



I don't feel comfortable recommending filing replacement drawings via fax, especially since we haven't been getting the fax-back acknowledgement fax from the USPTO.  Since there is little possibility that they will resolve the issue before our due date, we have no choice but to file our Response on paper.  Joy.

I have a Response to an Invitation to Correct Defects to file in PatentCenter, and it's telling me there is an error in my ADS correspondence address.  1. I didn't get to the submission part, and 2. When is there an ADS in a PCT application?  Crazy.
