[Patentpractice] [Patentcenter] USPTO and December 24th, 2024

Just spoke with a SPE in AU 1600. He said that because the USPTO will be closed tomorrow, any deadlines for the 24th will be timely filed on the 26th.

Yes almost every year there is a game of chicken in which the President waits and waits until the last minute and then gives federal employees an extra day or half-day off for the day before Christmas.  And this year, like nearly all past years, the game of chicken ended with the usual Executive Order.

But nothing in the President's order says that this constitutes a federal holiday in the District of Columbia.  So no, the Executive Order does not, by itself, give filers a free pass until the 26th for actions due on the 24th.
