Judi. Thanks for the suggestion. That is a fax number. Changing to the 272 version gets me to a general directory, so unfortunately not much closer.
Best regards,

I have (571) 273-2885 as the number for the issue branch, but can’t say if it’s still in use.

[External Email]
I would run, not walk, to the phone, and call up the Issue Branch. I would not waste a second trying to communicate about this to anybody in any part of the USPTO other than the Issue Branch.
Oh, wait. Dang it.
The Issue Branch used to have a telephone number.
Now I see that the Issue Branch tries to blow you off and tell you to call the "misnamed" Application Assistance Unit.
I am now clicking around to try to find the true phone number for the Issue Branch.

Listmates,
A misunderstanding led to mis-identifying an assignee on an issue fee transmittal filed a few days ago. I.e., the assignment of record identifies a different assignee that has not transferred rights. I've been unable to identify in the MPEP or elsewhere a process for correcting the assignee for publication in this particular situation. (MPEP 1481.01<https://mpep.uspto.gov/RDMS/MPEP/current#/current/d0e145040.html> seems not quite on point, as (in my reading) it is directed to identifying an assignee recorded after issue fee payment, and would not likely result in correction prior to printing. )
I've spent unconscionable time on hold for the Application Assistance Center only to be directed to the Certificate of Corrections office (703-756-1814), which office provides only a recorded message directing the caller to send an email or call a team leader at 703-756-1586 (disconnected) or supervisor at 571-272-6621 (unhelpfully an examiner in art unit 3637). I sent an email to the specified email address, customerservicecoc at uspto.gov<mailto:customerservicecoc at uspto.gov>, a week ago, to no avail.
So, does anyone have experience suggesting it is possible to correct the assignee to be published on the patent's face after issue fee payment but before the patent issues?
