EXTERNAL EMAIL
Hi, Scott

Thanks. Yes, as I recall, I took a snapshot of the section I wanted or printed the guide to PDF, then took a snapshot. But it shouldn't be locked in the first place.

Best regards,

Hi Randall,

Totally ridiculous but there’s a workaround. The key is to print the locked pdf to pdf. An ocr’d copy is attached along with the converted Word version in case you/others could use a copy.

EXTERNAL EMAIL
Hi, Bill

The USPTO likes to lock down its forms and other documents. A while ago I tried copying an example from the Quick Reference Guide to the IDS Size Fee, and I couldn't do it. I checked the properties and it said that copying was not permitted. Ridiculous.

Subject: [Patentpractice] ADS forms --> importing data into/exporting data from using Adobe does NOT work ['security settings'] AIA00014.pdf

Dear All,
This email relates to the USPTO PDF ADS form --> AIA00014.pdf

I want to import data into the ADS to let me populate the ADS.
I also want to export data from pre-filled-out ADSs.

I just bought an Adobe subscription --- $$$$ -- since the Adobe free reader does not support this.
I have zero experience in this.

The (not intuitive) Adobe interface tells me to go to "prepare forms" and then "create forms"
I did this and I am told that "You cannot edit this form due to security settings"

From Adobe, the security of the ADS [AIA00014.pdf] says that "changing the form" is NOT allowed even though it also lists the security method as "no security"

I remember from a number of years ago that folks COULD do this.

Did the USPTO shut this down???

I do NOT want to use online ADS forms.

Many thanks!
Bill
