[Patentcenter] EBC: You need to fax us in order to use PatentCenter

I never made it past the initial “follow-on submission” screen. There are two different bugs:

1.	If the correspondence address contains a non-English character, PatentCenter can’t handle it. It throws an error message “Submission contains invalid character(s) in: ads.correspondenceAddress.name, ads.correspondenceAddress.name2, ads.correspondenceAddress.street.” Try 35/515,646, Confirmation No. 8251
2.	In other cases, the error message is “applicationNumberText not matching with DB entry. confirmationNumberText not matching with DB entry.” Try 35/515,642, Confirmation No. 6772.

I do agree though, that there are other cases originating outside the US where filings are possible. 35/515,641, Conf. No. 8742 for example works.

Just now I tried to file a paper in a Hague application that originated outside the US and is not associated with a USPTO customer number. Actually I tried it in several cases that fall into this category.

In each case, Patent Center did not block me.

Well, I did not actually try to click "submit". But it allowed me to create a saved submission. It did not block me from creating a saved submission.

At what point did you find that Patent Center blocked you? Was it at the point of plugging in the application number and confirmation number? Or was it at the point of clicking "submit"?

Me: Please advise how to file papers in application 35/515,xxx

EBC: You aren't able to file documents in this application because your customer number isn't associated in this application and there isn't a POA.

Me: Thanks. I should be able to act in a representative capacity under 37 C.F.R. 1.34 without a power of attorney.

EBC: Without the customer number being associated to the application you won't be able to access it in Patent Center. This isn't a glitch

Me: How can I file a power of attorney if I need a power of attorney to file the power of attorney?

EBC: In order to associate the customer number to the application you need to fax (571-273-8300)form AIA/122.

I couldn’t have made this up… but I guess that is what happens if EBC is no longer allowed to answer “use EFS-Web” the answer becomes “fax us.”
