Some recent comments reminded me of a TESS strategy I was developing years ago that basically demonstrates that applicants from China pursue a different strategy than applicants from America, namely the China applications focus on brief standard character marks. Translating (and updating) that old TESS strategy into the new Trademark Search syntax ...

Since the beginning of 2020, the first 3 searches show
China accounts for roughly 33.4% of live standard character marks filed; and
USA accounts for roughly 55.4% of live standard character marks filed;
but the last 3 searches show
China accounts for roughly 56.8% of standard character marks of 5 to 9 characters; and
USA accounts for roughly 32.4% of standard character marks of 5 to 9 characters.
Did you notice how the ratios basically switch? And that applicants from China are very focused on brief standard character marks of 5 to 9 characters? It's like trademark advisers in China recommend short standard character marks that can easily survive a 2(d) LOC search. Admittedly, this is just the start of such analyses (e.g., my list of states doesn't include Washington, DC and US territories, plus each US state probably should have its own search {and does the SC:Georgia search retrieve trademarks for the US state or the European country or both?} to help identify any search irregularities, and I didn't consider standard character mark shorter than 5 characters or longer than 9 characters).
Happy Trademarking,
Ken Boone
PS - Did you notice at 7,564 trademarks were filed last Friday, as evident by the FD:20250117 search, undoubtedly a single-day trademark filing record? It's like the USPTO had a Black Friday sale or something. ;-)
